Dragons Handle Hampton at Home, 17-1

PHILADELPHIA - Drexel scored the first 13 goals of the game and went on to a convincing 17-1 win against Hampton on Saturday at Vidas Field. Five different Dragons scored at least two goals as Drexel evened its CAA record at 2-2.
The Dragons (5-6) got going early when Gavin Kelly started the scoring just 33 seconds into the game. Max Semple added two early tallied and when Semple set up Ty Gougler, the Dragons led by four just five minutes in. Drexel would add four more scores before the end of the quarter to increase the lead to eight. Nate Bradley capped the scoring as he converted a pass from Witt Crawford as time expired in the first.
Jack Joyner and Jack Clark scored in the second quarter as the Dragons hit double figures in goals before intermission. Brendan Donnelly made four stops in the first half before taking the rest of the game off, Drew McGill played the third quarter, while Charlie Schine was in the cage for the final period.
Drexel got everyone involved early, using numerous combinations throughout the game. Ryan Lowe, Gougler and Tristan Plotts added to the lead in the third quarter as Drexel held the Pirates off the board for the first 45 minutes. Hampton finally broke the drought on an man-up goal by Canyon Steverson 34 seconds into the fourth. Drexel added on with four more goals, the final one by Finn Halladay with 2:15 to go making the final 17-1.
Clark, Joyner, Gougler, Plotts and Semple each finished the game with two goals. The Dragons outshot Hampton, 61-20, and won 13 of the 20 face-offs. Trent Layton was 8-for-12 at the face-off "X" and led the team with six ground balls.
The Dragons head to Long Island next weekend when they visit Hofstra.
