Softball Defeats Stony Brook to Take Series, 18-17

Prior to the game, Drexel celebrated Izzy Alamillo, Mia Garza, Madison Gayle, Jackie Masone, Lily Meuninck and Lana Mooney for their dedication and hard work throughout their careers.
Madison Taylor started in the circle for Drexel and struggled through the first inning of the game. Sidney Toukonen entered the game in relief and earned her second win of the season. Madison Taylor reentered the game and earned a save.
The Drexel offense fired on all cylinders on Saturday afternoon, picking up 18 hits. Kylah Reading paced the Dragons, hitting 4-for-5 with four runs and five RBIs. A total of six Dragons picked up at least two RBIs in the season finale.
Stony Brook poured on six runs to begin the first inning. But it was quickly flipped on its head in the bottom of the inning. The Dragons scored 12 runs on 10 hits, essentially batting through the lineup twice.
In the second inning, Drexel shut the Seawolves down, holding the visitors to just one hit in the inning, then again in the bottom of the inning, poured on insurance runs. Drexel scored three runs on three hits, all on consecutive at bats.
The Seawolves cracked double digits in the third inning, scoring four runs to pull within five runs of the Dragons. But that distance was again widened by the Dragons when Kylah Reading hit a three-run home run to left field to give Drexel an eight-run lead.
Stony Brook scored two runs in the fourth, two in the sixth and three in the seventh to pull within one of Drexel, but stranded the tying run on third when Drexel produced a popup to first.
Drexel ended its season with its first series win of the season, taking two-of-three games against Stony Brook, who is currently in fifth place.
