
Members of Drexel Rowing Teams to Compete at the U23 World Rowing Championships

POZNAN, Poland — Members of the Drexel rowing teams will represent their nations at the U23 World Rowing Championships July 23-27 on Lake Malta in Poznan, Poland. Andrei Axintoi (Romania), Matthew Kennedy (United States), Bartek Socha (Poland), and incoming freshman Ryan Miller (United States) of men's rowing and Sarah Ghazaz (Morocco) of women's rowing will participate in the Championships.
Axintoi will represent Romania in the Men's Quadruple Scull. This is his fourth time racing with the Romania National team and his third time at Worlds. Axintoi finished fourth twice in the Men's 4- in 2022 and 2023.
Kennedy and Miller are set to compete together in the Men's Double Sculls. This will be the pair's first time at the World Championships, taking the top spot in their qualifier on Mercer Lake.
Additionally, head coach Matt Weaver and assistant coach Gary Wielgus will also be coaching the U.S. Men's Double Sculls at the event. This is Weaver's third time participating as a coach and Wielgus's second, as the two helped the US Lightweight Quad set a new American record (5:47.74) on their way to a silver medal in 2024.
Socha will be with the Men's 4-, making his first appearance at the U23 World Championships. The Warsaw native has previously competed at the Youth National Champions, winning two gold medals.
Ghazaz will row in the Lightweight Single for Team Morocco. This is the Galloway, N.J., product's first time in international competition.
