Dragons Top Central Michigan 2-1 in Season Opener

PHILADELPHIA – Drexel field hockey opened the 2025 season with a 2-1 victory over Central Michigan on Friday afternoon at Buckley Field. Marti Sanabria scored once and assisted on another, while Valentine Van Hellemont added the Dragons' second goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Sanabria put Drexel on the board in the 13th minute with an unassisted strike to give the Dragons the early lead. She then set up Van Hellemont in the 28th minute to double the advantage heading into halftime. Central Michigan broke through in the final seconds of regulation, but Drexel held on to secure its first win of the season.
BY THE NUMBERS
Sanabria recorded her first goal and first assist of the season.
Van Hellemont notched her first goal of the year late in the second quarter.
Drexel held a 21-3 advantage in shots and an 11-4 edge in penalty corners.
Goalkeeper Halle Geiger earned the win in goal.
