Rullo's 16 Points Lifts Drexel Over Towson, 68-45

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's basketball team defeated the Towson Tigers handedly, 68-45, on Saturday night inside the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The Dragons, grabbed 48 rebounds, which is a team-high against Division I opponents this season, and outscored Towson 33-21 in the second half to earn its fourth conference victory of the season.
BY THE NUMBERS
Towson, who entered the game second in the conference in points per game, was held to its second-lowest point total of the season.
The Dragons defense also held Towson to just 26.2 percent from the field on 16-for-61 shooting and just 5-for-24 from deep. Offensively, Drexel was on par for its shooting percentage, finishing .4% higher at 41.8%.
Molly Rullo finished with 16 points, and a career-high five free throws. The freshman shot 5-for-10 from the field and also grabbed four rebounds and three assists.
Laine McGurk grabbed nine rebounds in Saturday's effort, topping her previous career-high of six, which was set against Stony Brook on Friday, January 23, 2026.
It is the largest victory against Towson since the team in 2019, 77-44.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Drexel used a seven-point run at the end of the first quarter to take a 10-point lead into the second quarter. The Drexel defense held Towson to just 4-for-14 and 1-for-9 from deep to help take the double-digit lead.
Drexel opened the second quarter on an 8-2 run that propelled the Dragons to a 16-point lead and forced Towson to call its first timeout. Towson erased the run and ended the quarter just one point shy of Drexel's 2nd frame total of 16. The Dragons held the Tigers to just 4-for-16 in the second frame. At the halfway point, Rullo led the Dragons in scoring with nine points. Seven of the nine Dragons who appeared in the first half scored at least two points.
It was all Drexel in the third quarter, outscoring Towson 23-9. The Dragons shot a blistering 10-for-19 and added three treys to the tally. Amaris Baker scored seven points to help extend Drexel's lead to 58-33. The Tigers shot 4-for-13 in the third frame.
Towson outscored Drexel 12-10 in the fourth quarter but could not overcome the 23-point deficit. The Tigers finished the game on a 1-for-7 streak and shot just 22.2 percent from the field.

Drexel travels to West Long Branch, N.J. on Friday, January 30 to face the Monmouth Hawks at 7 p.m. Then, on Sunday, the Dragons play the Northeastern Huskies in Boston, Mass. at 1 p.m.
