Women's Basketball Edges Northeastern, 65-56

BOSTON, Mass. – The Drexel women's basketball team defeated the Northeastern Huskies on Sunday, 65-56. The Dragons have now won five-straight games, marking a new season-high. DU improved to 6-3 in conference play and 13-7 overall.
BY THE NUMBERS
Laine McGurk scored 24 points on 9-for-15 shooting. The junior's 24 points is her second highest this season. McGurk made eight shots and also corralled five rebounds. It is the third time that she has scored more than 20 points this season and fifth in her career.
Amaris Baker scored 21 points and also grabbed three rebounds and dished one assist. It is the 11th time this season that Baker crossed the 20-point mark. Her 21 points also pushes her Drexel career points to 1,290 points and sole possession of 16th in program history.
The last time Drexel had two players score north of 20 points was against Chestnut Hill on December 16, 2025. Baker scored 26 points, while Iriona Gravely scored 23.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Drexel ended the first quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 19-12 lead into the second quarter. Drexel held Northeastern scoreless for the remaining three minutes of the quarter. Baker led the Dragons in scoring 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting.
DU extended its lead to 12 points after outscoring Northeastern 20-15 in the second quarter. The Dragons shot 7-for-12 from the field and found the bottom of the net on four treys. McGurk was the leading force for Drexel, scoring eight points and connecting on two deep balls. Drexel entered the second half ahead, 39-27.
Both teams scored 12 points in the third quarter. McGurk led the Dragons once more with four points, while Deja Evans contributed three points. The Dragon defense held Northeastern to 6-for-15 and drew six fouls on the home team. Entering the final 10 minutes of play in regulation, Drexel was ahead by 12, 52-40.
The fourth quarter was the only quarter in the game where Drexel was outscored by Northeastern. The Huskies scored 16 points, while Drexel scored 13. Despite shooting 50 percent from the field in the fourth, Drexel took nine shots less than Northeastern.

Drexel returns to the DAC on February 6 to begin a weekend home stand. On Friday, the Hampton Pirates travel to University City to face Drexel at 6 p.m. On Sunday, February 8, Drexel hosts the Monmouth Hawks at 1 p.m. Both games will be streamed on FloCollege.
