Drexel Uses High-Powered Third Quarter to Defeat Northeastern, 72-61

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's basketball team defeated the Northeastern Huskies, 72-61, on Friday night at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The Dragons used a 25-point third quarter to take 14-point lead into the fourth quarter.

Grace O'Neill finished the game with five points, six rebounds and six assists. With her six helpers, O'Neill tied Keishana Washington on the program's assists leaders list with 368.
Laine McGurk ended the game with 26 points to lead the Dragons in scoring. It is her highest scoring performance inside the DAC and second highest in her career.
Amaris Baker finished he game with 12 points with three rebounds and three assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Northeastern opened the game shooting a high clip, 8-for-12, but Drexel ended the quarter with a pair of treys to tie the game at 18 points apiece. McGurk paced the Dragons in the first 10 minutes, scoring six points on two deep balls, while Mariah Watkins added four points.
The second frame kept the two teams at a standstill, both scoring 13 points. Baker and McGurk each led the team with four points each. The Dragons and Huskies each entered the second half at 31 points.
Drexel erupted in the third quarter, outscoring the Huskies, 25-11. The visitors were only able to take nine shots, converting on four of those opportunities. On the other side of the floor, Drexel scored nine field goals to take a 14-point lead into the final quarter. In the second half of the quarter, Drexel went on a 17-6 run.
Northeastern outscored Drexel, 17-16, in the fourth frame but could not overcome the 14-point deficit it dug in the third frame. McGurk paced the Dragons with five points on a trey and two free throws.

Drexel is set to wrap up its home slate on Sunday, March 1 against the North Carolina A&T Aggies. Prior to the game, the Dragons will recognize the graduating seniors: O'Neill, Baker and Jalyn McNeill. Action from the DAC is slated for 2 p.m. on FloCollege.
