Dragons Overcome Double-Digit Deficit to Defeat N.C. A&T in Overtime, 65-63

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's basketball team erased another 14-point deficit on Sunday afternoon to defeat the North Carolina A&T Aggies, 65-63, in overtime at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The Dragons entered the final quarter of play trailing by 10 points. Drexel improved to 19-8 overall and is now 11-4 in conference play. Drexel has now won 11 of its last 12 games.

With two games left to play in the regular season, Drexel is tied for second in the conference standings with Stony Brook.
Prior to the game, Drexel celebrated its seniors for their dedication and efforts given to the program. Among those celebrated were Jalyn McNeill, Amaris Baker and Grace O'Neill.
Baker paced the Dragons in scoring, chipping in 25 points and making nine shots from the free throw line, which is a career-high. Baker also had five rebounds and three assists in the effort.
Laine McGurk finished the game with 18 points, six rebounds, two assists and three steals. Of the 18 points, McGurk scored 14 in the second half of play.
Deja Evans turned in a 10-point performance with eight rebounds in Sunday's contest.
Drexel finished the regular season with an 11-3 home record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Drexel finished the first quarter ahead, 14-12. Despite shooting 0-for-5 from behind the three-point line, Drexel used six field goals to help give themselves the lead. The Aggies were only able to make four field goals. Baker helped Drexel take the lead, scoring six in the first frame. McGurk and Evans each added four points each to complete Drexel's scoring in the first frame.
A&T took a 10-point lead in the second quarter, outscoring the Dragons, 16-4. The Dragons were only able to convert on two field goals and last scored a basket with 3:26 remaining in the quarter.
Both teams scored 20 points in the third frame. The Dragons shot a clip under 50 percent, cashing in on six field goals. The Dragons also went perfect from the charity stripe, making all seven of their shots from the free throw line.
The fourth quarter was all Drexel. The Dragons erased the 10-point deficit to force overtime. The Dragons ended the quarter on a 12-2 run, taking their first lead since the second quarter with just over a minute on the clock. With 33 seconds left, the Aggies scored a layup to tie the game at 58.
In overtime, Drexel quickly jumped out to a three-point lead, before A&T scored its first points with 3:11 in the quarter. Drexel answered with a pair of field goals to give itself a five-point lead with two minutes remaining. Five points were all that was needed, as N.C. A&T could only manage to score three points in the final minutes.

Drexel plays its final weekend series of the regular season beginning on Thursday, March 5. Drexel travels to Hofstra to face the Pride at 6 p.m. then takes a trip to Towson, Md. on Saturday, March 7 to play the Tigers to close the regular season at 2 p.m. Both games will air on FloCollege.
