Dragons Defeat Hofstra, 70-56

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Drexel women's basketball team defeated the Hofstra Pride, 70-56, on Thursday evening on Long Island. With the victory, Drexel improves to 20-8 and 12-4 in CAA play. It is the first time the Dragons have put together a 20-win season since the 2022-23 season.

The Dragons have secured the double bye in the upcoming CAA Tournament with the victory against the Pride on Thursday night, while the Dragons are uncertain what seed they will be, they will end somewhere in the top-4 in the league.
With her second field goal of the night, Amaris Baker joined the program's top 10 for field goals, overtaking Jen MacNeill, with 555.
Four Dragons checked in with 10 or more points on Thursday night. Laine McGurk scored 15 points on 7-for-14 shooting, Baker scored 13, Molly Rullo scored 10 and Bria Watkins finished with 12.
Watkins cracked double digits for the first time in her career. The freshman finished with four field goals and three rebounds.
The Dragons finished with 24 assists and 27 field goals made.
It is the first time the Dragons are victorious in Hempstead since February 24, 2023.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Drexel jumped out to a 22-point lead in the first quarter, holding the Pride to just two points in the first 10 minutes. The Dragons shot 11-for-19 and grabbed 14 rebounds. Of the 11 buckets the Dragons made, eight came off assists. Four Dragons scored at least three points with McGurk leading the way with six. The Drexel defense held Hofstra to just 1-for-14 from the field.
The Dragons and Pride split the second quarter, each scoring 15 points. Both teams made six field goals in the second quarter, Baker led the way for Drexel, scoring four points. Drexel entered the second quarter ahead by 22 points, 39-17.
The Dragons and Pride, once again, split the third quarter, with 21 points apiece. The Dragons shot 6-for-15 in the third frame, while the Pride shot a clip under 50 percent, 7-for-15. The Dragons were led by Baker and Garcia Roig, who each scored four points.
The Pride outscored the Dragons 18-10 in the final frame, holding the Dragons to just 4-for-17. The Dragons ended the frame on a four-minute scoring drought but was still able to defeat the hosts by 14 points.
