PHILADELPHIA – Drexel softball fell to Monmouth, 9-1, in five innings in the opening game of Saturday's doubleheader. The Dragons moved to 14-16 on the season and 3-7 in CAA play.
How It Happened
Monmouth took an early lead in the top of the first inning. A double to right center brought in a run before another run scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.
Drexel answered in the bottom of the second inning. Jackie Masone scored from second base on a Mckenna Rowlands single through the right side to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Monmouth added two runs in the third inning on a double to left center to extend the lead to 4-1.
In the fourth inning, a double down the left field line brought in a run, and a single later in the inning added another to make it 6-1.
Monmouth closed the scoring in the fifth inning with a solo home run followed by a two-run home run to secure the 9-1 result.

Mckenna Rowlands went 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Jackie Masone went 1-for-2 and scored a run.
Kylah Reading and Macie Bergmann each recorded a hit.
Courtney Kols pitched 3.1 innings with two strikeouts.
