Danica Deckard enters her seventh season at Drexel as an assistant field hockey coach in 2021-22. She joined the Drexel field hockey staff as an assistant coach in the summer of 2015 under head coach Denise Zelenak.
Before Drexel, Deckard served as the graduate assistant coach at Temple University from August 2013 through May 2015 where she also obtained a master’s degree in sport business.
Prior to her two-year stint at Temple, Deckard attended Ohio State University and was a four-year letterwinner for the Buckeye field hockey program. While serving as team captain during her senior campaign in 2012, Deckard was named to the NFHCA All-Region First Team and All-Big Ten Conference Second Team. In her junior season, she earned NFHCA All-Region Second Team honors while helping her team clinch the conference regular-season title as well as a NCAA Final Four appearance.
In her four seasons as a student-athlete at Ohio State, Deckard and the Buckeyes advanced to three NCAA Tournaments and four Big Ten Conference Tournaments. She also led the team in goals in both her junior and senior seasons. The forward tallied 34 goals and 10 assists for 78 points in her career.
In the classroom, Deckard was a two-time NFHCA National Academic honoree, a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and a four-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete. She received a bachelor’s degree in sport and leisure studies in May 2013.
In the summer of 2015, Deckard also worked for the U16 Mainline Mayhem Field Hockey Club as an assistant coach for the travel team.
She also served as the Head of Video Analysis for the U.S. Over-40 Women’s Masters Team on a trip to Germany.
