Phil Vande Berg joined the Drexel staff in November of 2004 as the associate athletic trainer. He is responsible for injury and illness evaluation, rehabilitation and injury prevention. Vande Berg serves as the athletics trainer for men's lacrosse and golf. He is also an adjunct instructor at Drexel.
Before his arrival in University City, Vande Berg was the head athletic trainer for the Camden River Sharks professional baseball team for four seasons. He handled administration of all medical records, scheduled surgeries and rehabilitation among other duties.
Vande Berg also worked as a staff athletic trainer at the ARCO Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. He provided coverage for practice and competition for numerous olympic sports, including field hockey, softball, soccer and track and field.
Vande Berg graduated form Franklin College in Franklin, Indiana with a bachelor's degree in physical education, athletic training track. After graduation, he served as a graduate assistant at Indiana University, where he worked with the track and field and cross country teams. He earned a master’s degree in athletic training from IU in 2000.
Vande Berg and his wife, Michelle, live in Audubon, Pa. with their son, Hank.
