Ray Hastings begins his fourth season as an assistant on head coach Carl Taylor's staff after coming to University City in the summer of 2017. He serves alongside his wife, Michelle.
The husband and wife duo came to Drexel from Rutgers-Camden, where Schlichtig-Hastings was the head coach for the last three seasons and Hastings served as her top assistant. There the pair helped guide the Scarlet Raptors to their best season since 2007 and went on to earn New Jersey Athletic Conference playoff berths in their first two seasons with the team.
Prior to coaching at Rutgers-Camden, Hastings served as the assistant varsity softball coach at Haddon Heights High School under Schlichtig-Hastings. There he helped lead the softball program to three conference championships, two South Jersey titles and the 2013 state championship.
No stranger to athletic success, Hastings was a standout baseball player at Haddon Heights and Camden County College. He then moved on to professional baseball in 2007, playing for the Lewisville Lizards who were coached by former Major Leaguer and current New York Mets First Base Coach, Tom Goodwin. During the 2008 season he played for the Texarkana Gunslingers under former Major League pitcher Steve Trout. He led the Continental League in games started and finished third in the league in runs scored.
Hastings has also served as a Professional Fastpitch Instructor since 2006.
Ray and Michelle Hastings reside in Haddon Heights, N.J.
