Shawn Markey was named the interim swimming head coach in March 2009. He served as an assistant coach for two seasons at Drexel. Markey competed four years at Drexel under Bruce Bronsdon and led the team that won the America East Championships as co-captain in 2001. He currently holds the 200 medley relay record at Drexel.
Markey began his swimming career in Virginia where he was a member of the relay team that still holds a state record in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Markey competed in numerous national swim meets as a prep swimmer, including the 1997 Phillips 66 National Championships held in Tennessee, multiple Junior National Championships and the Eastern Zones Spring Championships. Markey was the 50-meter freestyle champion at the Eastern Zones Spring Championships in 1995.
