Whitney Springstead

Whitney Springstead is in her fifth season as head coach of the Drexel University men's and women's tennis teams. She came to Drexel after serving as an assistant at Penn for two seasons. She followed in the footsteps of former head coach Laura White, who assumed duties as Drexel's senior women's administrator.
Under Springstead's leadership, the men finished 9-8 in 2002 which marked their first winning season since 1997-98. The women ended their 2002 season with a record of 2002.
Prior to her appointment at Penn, Springstead was the head women's coach at Eastern College. She compiled an 18-14 record in two NCAA Division III seasons. In addition to her collegiate coaching experiencec, she is a social directer as well as a club professional at the Germantown Cricket Club.
A 1996 graduate of Rosemont College, Springstead excelled in tennis as a four-time Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Player of the Year. Also a two-time PAIAW Player of the Year (1992 & 1993) and the 1996 South Jersey Coaches Association College Player of the Year, she recorded a 60-1 singles mark as a collegian while going undefeated in league play.
In addition to her coaching duties at Drexel, Springstead is the Tournament Director for the USTA men's and women's senior grass court nationals. A native of Moorestown, N.J., Springstead resides in Narberth, Pa. with her husband, Nigel.
