Drexel Drops a 62-50 Decision to La Salle at the Palestra
12/3/2005 12:00:00 AM
The Dragons struggled once again in the opening half and could only muster 27 points despite nine La Salle turnovers in the first half. The game was close before the Dragons went cold late in the half. La Salle closed the half with a 10-2 run over the last eight minutes to take the lead, 35-27, at intermission.
Frank Elegar (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymonds) kept the Dragons in the game at the outset of the second half. The sophomore scored Drexel's first 10 points of the half. His dunk off an offensive rebound with 13:39 to play cut the lead to one. Elegar finished the game with career-highs of 18 points and 13 rebounds. It was his third-straight double-double.
The Explorers took control of the contest for good when they broke the Dragons' press and Smith converted a three-point play on a dunk to increase the lead to nine points.
The Dragons begin play in the Colonial Athletic Association on Wednesday night when they host James Madison at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m., following the conclusion of the women's game against Towson.
