Free-Throw Shooting Leads Drexel Past James Madison, 68-57

The Dragons (4-5, 1-0 CAA) trailed, 24-21 with just under six minutes to play in the first half, but went on a 10-3 run to close the half with the lead, 31-27. They took the lead for good when Bashir Mason (Jersey City, N.J./St. Benedict's) scored on a lay-up with 4:04 left in the first half. James Madison (2-3, 0-2 CAA) would play the Dragons close most of the second half, but was unable to regain the lead.
There were 54 fouls called in the game, 31 of them against the Dukes. Drexel capitalized by making 29 of 42 free throws. Sanchez was 11-for-12 from the line, while Dominick Mejia (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern) was 10-for-12 from the stripe. Both teams struggled from the floor in the contest. JMU shot just 36 percent, while Drexel only made 39 percent of its shots.
Mejia also finished with 21 points for the Dragons. Frank Elegar (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond's) chipped in with 12 points, while Bashir Mason handed out five assists and had a pair of steals.
Ray Barbosa led James Madison with 19 points, 15 of which came in the first half.
The Dragons conclude their brief two-game home stand with a Colonial Athletic Association game on Saturday against Old Dominion at 3 p.m. The game, which can be seen live on CN8, is part of a doubleheader with the women's team.
