Hempstead, N.Y. - Catherine Scanlon put together her third-consecutive double-double with 17 points and a season-high 13 rebounds but it wasn't enough as Hofstra (8-4, 3-0 CAA) held on for a 65-52 victory over the Dragons (6-6, 1-2 CAA).
Hofstra's Vanessa Gidden amassed a 21-point, 17-rebound double-double to lead the Pride. Gidden's eight offensive boards helped Hofstra score 15 second-chance points which proved to be the difference in the game. Drexel trimmed an 18-point second-half lead to 10 points with 10:19 in the game, but the Pride prevailed despite six turnovers forced by the Dragons' full-court pressure.
Narissa Suber hit a trio of threes in the contest en route to a 15-point performance. The sophomore moved into second-place on Drexel's all-time three-pointers list with 106 treys in her career. Nicole Hester also hit double-figure scoring for the Dragons with 10 points and she matched season highs with two blocks and three steals.
The Dragons, who lit up the nets from deep against Northeastern, were held to just 20.7 percent three-point shooting in the game while Hofstra, led by Gidden's 17 caroms, gathered most of the misses to outrebounded Drexel 53 to 35.
Drexel returns home to host William & Mary and Old Dominion next Friday and Sunday, respectively.
