Newark, Del. - Delaware avenged a loss to Drexel earlier in the season with a 75-68 victory in CAA action. The Dragons, down 19 at halftime, rallied in the second half but could cut the Blue Hen lead to no smaller than six points as Drexel's record fell to 13-13 overall and 7-8 in CAA play.
Bashir Mason (Jersey City, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) went 10-for-10 at the line for the Dragons and scored 20 second-half points in the Dragons' comeback bid. Drexel trailed 38-19, but opened the second half with a 7-0 run to get back into the contest. Delaware (7-17, 3-12 CAA) bent but didn't break as they never let the Dragons get within six points the rest of the game. Delaware's Harding Nana had a big game for the Blue Hens with 25 points and 19 rebounds. Drexel's leading scorer was Dominick Mejia (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern) with 23 points, though he went just 1-for-7 beyond the arc.
Drexel's two big men, Chaz Crawford and Frank Elegar, managed just eight points combined. Both players were plagued by foul trouble and each were eventually disqualified with five personal fouls.
The Dragons struggled out of the gate for the third time in the last four games. Delaware raced out to a 27-9 lead early as the Dragons shot just under 28 percent and committed eight turnovers in the first half.
Drexel faces CAA-leader George Mason on Wednesday night in Fairfax, Va.
