Mejia and Crawford Power Drexel Past Northeastern, 83-47

Mejia had one of his best offensive nights of the season, sinking five of his seven three-point attempts and finishing 9-for-13 from the floor. He also had six rebounds and five assists. Crawford and Frank Elegar (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond's) were both forces on the inside. Crawford had 15 of his 19 points in the first half and was 8-for-12 shooting on the night. Elegar finished with 16 points and a team-best nine rebounds. The Dragons outscored NU, 38-10, in the paint.
The Dragons led by eight with just over eight minutes to play in the first half, but opened up the lead with a 20-2 run right before intermission. Northeastern's Jose Juan Barea broke the streak with a jumper with one second left as Drexel went to the break ahead, 41-17.
Kenell Sanchez (Camden, N.J./Bishop Eustace) chipped in with seven points and eight rebounds for Drexel, while Bashir Mason (Jersey City, N.J.) handed out six assists. He had the defensive assignment of covering Barea for most of the night. Barea, one of the top scorers in the nation at and the NCAA's assist leader, had 15 points on 5-for-14 shooting, was held to five assists and committed six turnovers.
Drexel returns to the hardwood on Saturday afternoon at Delaware. The game will be televised live on Comcast SportsNet at 2 p.m.
