Atlanta, Ga. - Anthony Bafile scored the only goal of the game as Drexel defeated Georgia State, 1-0, to remain perfect in CAA play at 5-0. Cory Robertson had the shutout as the Dragons improved to 8-2-2 overall. The victory is the Dragons' sixth straight and fifth in conference play.
Bafile's team-leading fifth goal of the season came on a feed from Todd Wampler and Thiago Assumpcao in the 27th minute. The sophomore striker beat one defender in the box and sold keeper Filipe Cavalho on a fake then deposited the ball in the net to give the Dragons a first half lead for a third consecutive match.
The Dragons kept up the pressure in both halves, peppering the Panthers with 19 shots and forcing Cavalho to make nine saves to keep the match close. Robertson made two first-half saves for the Dragons to earn his sixth win in seven starts in net. He also picked up his fourth shutout victory of the season.
Bafile put three of his five shots on goal in the contest and Thiago Assumpcao went on to put two shots on goal in the team's CAA-leading fifth conference victory of the season. Drexel outshot Georgia State 19-8 overall and edged the Panthers 3-2 in corner kicks.
Drexel's winning streak equals its longest string of consecutive victories since the 1998 season with the Dragons won seven straight and the team's eight triumphs are the most since 2000 when Drexel went 10-5-1.
Drexel will look to push its winning streak to seven straight against UNC Wilmington in North Carolina on Sunday. Opening kick is set for 1:00 p.m.
