Wilmington, N.C. - Leland Raum scored with five minutes left in the second overtime off a feed from Fabio Assumpcao as the Dragons pulled out a thriller for their seventh straight victory. Drexel remains undefeated in CAA play with a 6-0 mark including four victories on the road.
After battling through more than 104 minutes of soccer without rippling the net, Drexel got its game-winner off a quick reset following a foul. Anthony Bafile, who scored the Dragons' game-winner on Friday at Georgia State, made the quick kick after the foul, getting the ball to Fabio Assumpcao who fed Raum on a short cross for the golden goal. The tally was Raum's second of the season, both were game-winners in overtime. His only other goal this season downed No. 16 Lehigh in the Dragons' season opener.
The Dragons, who have been deadly on free kicks and corners during their current run, were held without a corner kick in the match. Drexel still managed to dominate scoring opportunities in the extra periods, however, outshooting the Seahawks 3-0 in the two overtimes and putting one on net in the first overtime before breaking through in the second.
Keeper Cory Robertson was called on to make five saves in goal to earn his fifth shutout of the season, while UNC Wilmington's Brock Duckworth made two stops.
Drexel is now perched alone atop the CAA standings after Old Dominion's 1-0 loss to Towson on Sunday. The Dragons remain the only undefeated team in the conference.
The seventh consecutive win is Drexel's longest winning streak since 1998, when the team won eight in a row, and the team's six conference victories matches marks set in 2000, 1995 and 1983 as the most in the program's history. Drexel will work to continue its historic run and garner its 10th win for the first time since the 2000 season when the Dagons play host to Hofstra on Friday, Oct. 26. Opening kick is set for 7:00 p.m. at Vidas Field
