George Mason Defeats Dragons in CAA Opener

Fairfax, Va. – George Mason opened the game with a 29-9 run and handed Drexel an 83-38 loss in both teams' Colonial Athletic Association opener. The loss dropped Drexel's record to 5-2 overall and snapped a two-game winning streak.
The Patriots (6-1) shot 51 percent from the floor and had 10 three-pointers. Dre Smith had a big game for Mason with 16 points. He made four three-pointers and had four assists. It was the first time all season a Drexel opponent shot better than 40 percent from the field.
Tramayne Hawthorne led the Dragons with 11 points. Gerald Colds added 10 points off the bench, all in the second half. The Dragons committed 16 turnovers and shot just 30 percent from the field. In the first half, the Dragons were outscored 40-15, and made only seven of their 26 attempts. They were also outrebounded 42-28. Yannick Formbor led Drexel with a career-high six rebounds.
Drexel will return to action on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. Creighton University, one of the top teams in the Missouri Valley Conference, will make their first visit to the Daskalakis Athletic Center in a game that will be televised on CN8.
