Wrestling Picks Up First Win with 30-9 Topping of East Stroudsburg

Northampton, Pa. – Drexel wrestling won its first match of the 2007-08 season as the Dragons defeated East Stroudsburg, 30-9, in a non-conference match held at Northampton High School. The win evened Drexel's record at 1-1 while the Warriors fell to 0-1.

Steve Mytych (Wyoming, Pa./Northampton) opened the match with a pinning of Matt Benedetti at 4:20 to give the Dragons a 6-0 lead. The Warriors responded with three straight wins by decision to earn a 9-6 advantage before Drexel All-American Ryan Hluschak (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) picked up an 11-4 win by decision. Billy Haydt (Bath, Pa./Northampton) followed at 165 pounds where he used a first period takedown to secure a 3-1 victory. Scott Hunter (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) and Justin Wieller (Bath, Pa./Northampton) also won by decision while East Stroudsburg forfeited matches at 197 and 285 pounds. The match was a homecoming of sorts for Mytych, Haydt and Wieller who all wrestled scholastically for Northampton High School.

Drexel returns to the mat on Dec. 7 as the Dragons travel to Fairfax, Va. to face conference foe, George Mason, and American University.
