Ambler and Chapman Each Score Three Times as Men's Lax Defeats Sacred Heart, 10-3

Fairfield, Conn. – Drexel's Colin Ambler and Andrew Chapman scored three goals each as the Dragons scored six times in the final quarter to defeat Sacred Heart, 10-3. It was the Colonial Athletic Association opener for the Dragons, who improved to 7-3 overall.
Sacred Heart (2-4, 1-1) outshot Drexel, 11-4, in the first period but scored only one goal on the Drexel defense. Junior Tony Tanzi's scored the lone goal of the quarter with 2:09 left in the first. The Dragons tied it at 1-1 at 9:43 of the second as Ambler set up Chapman. Drexel added two more goals to increase the lead to 3-1 at the half. Ambler scored man-up of a feed from Jon Van Houten at 5:51 and Chapman's added a goal with just 20 seconds left in the half. Drexel had 16 of the 18 shots in the second quarter.
Sacred Heart cut the lead to 3-2 at 13:51 of the third quarter. Michael Collins scored the goal for the Pioneers. Drexel's Mike Filippone answered midway through the period with an unassisted goal as the Dragons took a 4-2 lead into the final period.
The fourth quarter was all Drexel. The Dragons rattled off six straight goals to take control of the game. Ambler started the the run at 13:46. By the time Chapman scored his third of the game on the extra-man at 3:29, the Dragons were comfortably ahead with a 10-2 lead. Sacred Heart added a late man-up goal to make the final 10-3.
Ambler added two assists to his three goals while Filippone finished with two goals and two assists. In goal, Bruce Bickford made 10 saves, four in the first quarter, to seal the win in cage. Zak Fisher won 11 of 12 face-offs and picked-up a team-high seven grounders. Fisher has now won 20 of his last 22 face-offs. The Pioneers Ricardo Vargas made a career-high 15 saves.
