Hynes Takes Second Place in 1-Meter Dive at Georgia Diving Invitational

Athens, Ga. – Kate Hynes (Brookville, Pa./Brookville Area) placed first in the preliminaries and finished second in the finals of the 1-meter dive at the prestigious Georgia Diving Invitational. She scored a 277.95 in the preliminary event, more than five points better than second-place qualifier Rachel Ware of Louisiana State University. In the finals, Hynes took second place scoring a 279.20 only 1.40 points behind Purdue's Ashley Karnes. The Drexel diver topped participants from the University of Florida, the University of North Carolina, the University of Tennessee and host-school, University of Georgia. The meet marks the first time the junior has been defeated this season.
Hynes will compete again tomorrow in the 3-meter board. She is the two-time defending Colonial Athletic Association champion and first ever Drexel woman to compete in the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships after qualifying last season.
