Athens, Ga. – Kate Hynes (Brookville, Pa./Brookville Area) earned second place in the 3-meter dive after earning second the day before on the 1-meter board. She finished second in the preliminary 3-meter dive and would finish second in the finals to Purdue's Ashley Karnes. The Boilermaker diver was also the only diver to top Hynes on the 1-meter board.
Hynes scored a 276.45 in the preliminary competition on the 3-meter board. In the finals, the junior posted a 279.20 topping the rest of the field except Karnes who totaled a 311.60 in the finals. Hynes did defeat Karnes and the other four divers who finished in the top six on the 1-meter board in the 1-meter diving shootout the night before. The shootout consisted of five rounds with the diver with the lowest score in each round eliminated from the next round.
Hynes and the rest of the Drexel Swimming & Diving Team will return to action on Jan. 12 with a road meet at Binghamton starting at 1:00 p.m.
