Philadelphia - Drexel field hockey notched its 14th win of the season breaking the previous school mark set in 2000 as the 15th-ranked Dragons defeated Lehigh, 7-2. Christina Mastropaolo scored three goals while Carolina Gibernau contributed two scores. The victory moved Drexel to 14-3 on the season as the Dragons' win also gave them a perfect 7-0 mark against Pennsylvania schools in 2008.
The game was tightly contested in the first half though the Dragons had the bulk of the opportunities. Gibernau scored the game's first goal before Mastropaolo scored when her shot deflected off a defender and into the net. Lehigh got on the board when a shot on a penalty corner deflected off a Drexel stick and shot high into the cage.
Leading by just one goal at the break, the Drexel offense turned it on in the second half. Megan Keller scored her first goal of the season as Sofia Sanguinetti sent a pass of a free hit to Keller who finished the play in front. Mastropaolo then collected two more goals before Susan Ciufo scored a goal to extend her point-scoring streak to 17 games, longest in the nation. Gibernau capped Drexel's scoring before Lehigh tallied on a penalty corner before the final whistle.
For the game, Drexel outshot Lehigh, 37-8, and held a 14-7 advantage in penalty corners. Colleen McAndrew earned the win in the cage as she set a Drexel record for wins in a season with 14.
For its next game, Drexel will host Delaware on Friday, Oct. 31 at 7:00 p.m.
