Statesboro, Ga. - Drexel (2-0) won its second straight game at the Georgia Southern tournament after knocking out 17 runs, one short of a team record, in a 17-3 victory over Alabama State (1-4). Junior Amanda Shattuck picked up her first pitching victory of the season. Sandi Wambold and Katy Harrington both went 3-for-4 in the contest.
Wambold blasted her first home run of the season and the sixth of her career, moving her into a tie for sixth place on Drexel's all-time homers list with Jonnae McClain. She also doubled in the game and drove in four runs. The freshman, Harrington, continued to impress. After blasting a home run for her first collegiate hit against Georgetown in the team's first game of the day, Harrington went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored.
Shattuck worked three innings in the circle, allowing three earned runs on five hits and a walk with five strikeouts. Freshman hurler Ellen Boundy saw her first innings on the rubber, allowing two hits over two innings with a strikeout.
Drexel is back in action at 10:30 a.m. against Campbell, followed by a 1:00 matchup with Jacksonville State. Campbell also went 2-0 on day one of the tournament with a 7-3 win over Jacksonville State and a 4-1 victory over the host Georgia State. The Camels are 3-1 on the season. Jacksonville State is 3-3 on the season and split their games on day one with a 9-8 win over Georgia Southern and a loss to Campbell. One of the Gamecocks' three losses came to No. 4 Alabama in a tight 6-2 contest last weekend at the University of Alabama Tournament.
