Dragons Hold Off Host Hornets at Capital City Classic

Dover, Del. - Drexel (8-7) held off a late rally by the host Delaware State Hornets for a 7-5 victory in game two at the Capital City Classic. Ashley Botelho and Kristen Beaver had three hits each and Ellen Boundy picked up her second pitching victory of the season after coming on in relief of starter Breanna Gomez in the fourth inning.
Botelho went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI and Beaver went 3-for-3 at the plate. Sandi Wambold was the Dragons' leading run producer once again. Her two-RBI single in the fourth inning put the Dragons on top 6-0.
Gomez worked three hittless innings, walking three batters and striking out five before giving way to Boundy in the fourth. The freshman gave up three earned runs on four hits and three walks and struck out a season-high five batters to pick up the win.
The Dragons close out day one at the the tournament against St. Francis (Pa.) at 1:30 p.m.
