Dover, Del. - Sandi Wambold delivered for the Dragons again in the team's third game of the day at the Capital City Classic, driving in the tying run in the fifth inning of a 4-3 Drexel victory over St. Francis (Pa.). Kristen Beaver gave the Dragons the winning run when she walked, stole second and sprinted in from second base on a bunt by Lisa Williams and an error by the Red Flashes' second baseman.
Wambold finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and Williams went 1-for-1 with a season-high three stolen bases in the game. Ellen Boundy picked up her second victory in as many games after shutting down the Red Flashes' bats for four and two-thirds innings. She allowed just two hits, walked one batter and struck out three, improving to 2-1 on the season.
Williams' running put pressure on St. Francis in the second inning and when the third baseman committed a throwing error on a knock by Christina Rodriguez she was one of two Dragons to come around and score, evening the game at 2-2. The Red Flashes pulled ahead in the bottom of the third when starter Amanda Shattuck walked the bases loaded. Boundy relieved her and walked in a run before striking out the next batter for the final out of the inning.
Drexel improved to 9-7 on the season with a perfect 3-0 day at the Capital City Classic Tournament hosted by Delaware State. The Dragons are in action against Marist on Sunday to close out the the two-day tournament.
