Dragons Rise To Victory Over Delaware State on Senior Day

Philadelphia - Seniors Ashely Doriss and Hana Stecova all won their final regular-season home doubles matches as Dragons while lifting their team to a tight 4-3 win over Delaware State. The trio was honored prior to the match as part of Senior Day ceremonies. Junior Mellissa Lewis turned in the performance of the day, coming back from a first-set loss to win 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 at third singles and swing the momentum of the match in Drexel's favor.
Gabriela Marginean held off Yarslava Balakhonova at first singles. After Marginean pulled out to a lead in the first set, Balakhonova battled back to force a tiebreaker. But Marginean steadied herself to win the set with an 11-5 tiebreak win. Freshman Noorie Jadeja gave her team the first point of the match with a straight-set victory over Julieta Yung at sixth singles, 6-0, 6-4.
Drexel won two out of three doubles matches to take the decisive team point with the match knotted at 3-3 after singles play. Emily and Mellissa Lewis topped Balakhonova and Cassandra Newton 8-5 and seniors Doriss and Stecova teamed up to give their team the win with an 8-4 victory over Hanna Adewumi and Kelly Carrigan.
The Dragons wrap up regular-season match play at La Salle on Tuesday, April 15 at 3:30 p.m. before headging to Virginia to play in the CAA Championships on April 17-20.
