Softball Drops a Pair to Hofstra on the Road

Hempstead, N.Y. - Drexel struggled on day one of a three-game CAA series against conference leader Hofstra. The Dragons' bats knocked out just four hits on the day in a pair of shutout losses to the Pride (30-11, 11-3). Drexel fell 8-0 in a six-inning no-hitter in game one and dropped the nightcap of the doubleheader 5-0, falling to 7-7 in CAA play and 21-15 overall.
Game One
Lisa Williams' sixth inning squibber to third base was the closest the Dragons came to getting a runner on base in a run-rule shortened perfect game thrown by Kayleigh Lotti, the CAA's most dominant pitcher this season.
Breanna Gomez took the loss for the Dragons, dropping to 3-8 on the season. She let up just two earned runs, but was victimized by three Drexel errors in the game. Ellen Boundy allowed two unearned runs in two innings in relief of Gomez. Courtney Oliver went 2-for-4 with four RBIs to lead Hofstra's offense.
Game Two
A three-run second inning for Hofstra proved to be all the offense the Pride would need in a 5-0 victory in game two. Katrina Gaudier took the circle for the Dragons in the nightcap, allowing all five runs on 11 hits and a walk in six innings of work. The loss dropped her to 12-4 on the season.
The Dragons' best scoring opportunity came in the fifth inning when Kristen Beaver and Lisa Williams strung together back-to-back two-out singles, bringing Christina Rodriguez to the plate. Rodriguez had reached base in both of her previous plate appearances in the game with a walk and a single. Unfortunately for the Dragons, this time was not as fortuitous as she rapped an inning-ending ground out to Genevieve Haney at third base.
Drexel couldn't seem to catch a break in either contest on the Day. Sandi Wambold reached in the top of the seventh after being hit by a pitch with one out, but pinch hitter Jessica Bongiovanni promptly grounded into a game-ending double play.
The Dragons are back in action to close out the series tomorrow at noon in Hempstead, N.Y.
