Women's Swimming & Diving Defeats Providence, 136-95

Providence, R.I. - The Drexel women's swimming & diving team picked up a road victory as the Dragons downed Providence, 136-95. Maria Coman and Kate Hynes each won two events while the Dragons swept all the relay events en route to the victory. Devina Tyagi was a part of two winning relay teams and also picked up a win in the 50 free.
The foursome of Coman, Sarah Keeley, Kaitlin Slowey and Devina Tyagi opened the meet with a convincing victory in the 200 medley relay. Their time of 2:07.05 was more than four seconds better then Providence's second-place finishers. All four of Drexel's swimmers in the event went on to individual triumphs in later events. In the next event, the 1500 free, Jessica Csakai won by more than nine seconds with a time of 18:01.25. Freshman Devina Tyagi earned Drexel nine more points with a first-place finish in the 50 free when she touched at 28.52. Coman picked up the first of her two wins in the 200 IM with Keeley taking second place. Coman's clocked a 2:28.57 while Keeley finished at 2:32.94. Slowey won the 100 fly with a time of 1:10.47 while relaymate Keeley took the 100 breast with a time of 1:18.12. Coman's second win came in the 100 back as she won the event by more than three seconds with a time of 1:07.47. The Dragons closed the meet with an exclamation as Drexel's 200 free relay team of Meg Smith, Malin Wiberg, Csakai and Tyagi posted a time of 1:54.89 to give the team 11 points. In diving action, Kate Hynes won both the 1- and 3- meter dives to keep her season-long unbeaten streak alive in dual meets.
Drexel returns to action tomorrow when the Dragons take on Rhode Island and UConn at 1:00 p.m.
