VCU Defeats Drexel in CAA play, 2-0

Philadelphia – Drexel outshot VCU by a significant margin, but the Rams held on and added an insurance goal in the final seconds for a 2-0 victory at Vidas Field on Friday night.
The game was scoreless and back and forth for the first 30 minutes. VCU (6-5-2, 2-2-1) got on the board first after a Drexel (2-9-1, 0-4-1) foul led to a direct kick. VCU's attempt was saved by Nicole Sinclair. However, the Rams Meaghan Dullea picked up the rebound and fed the ball across the crease to a wide open Azania Barbose, who deposited the ball in the corner of the net with 11 minutes to play.
Drexel put pressure on the Rams early in the half and almost tied the game in the first 10 minutes of the frame. Jenna Lindsay made a move on a defender and took a shot from right in side the box. VCU keeper Kate Hudson dove and got just enough of the ball to deflect it off the post. Lindsay got the rebound and fired it right back at the cage, but the ball went over the net. Lindsay had another big chance later. With just under seven minutes to play. A teammate fed Lindsay in front of the net, and she turned a fired a left-footed shot from about 10 yards out, but Hudson once again came up big for the Rams.
VCU added a goal in the final seconds when Dulleah had a direct kick, which she lofted to June Hartman who found the back of the net with just five ticks remaining on the clock. The Rams were victorious despite being outshot, 15-10, and 8-3 in the second half.
Hudson finished with five saves for the Rams. Sinclair had four in a losing effort for the Dragons. The Dragons conclude their two-game homestand on Sunday afternoon against James Madison. Kick off is set for 1 p.m. at Vidas Field.
