Philadelphia - Fifth-ranked Penn rode a 8-1 halftime lead to a 10-4 victory over Drexel in a non-conference women's lacrosse game played at Franklin Field. Becca Drylie-Perkins led the Dragons with two goals while Lauren LaBella made 11 saves in goal. Penn's Ali DeLuca netted three goals in the victory. The loss was the first of the season for Drexel as the Dragons fell to 2-1.
DeLuca wasted little time as she netted the game's first goal just 36 seconds into the contest. Drexel answered rapidly as Katie Blazer knotted the score just 37 seconds later on an unassisted goal. The Quakers then went on a 7-0 run to close the first half including two more goals by DeLuca. Following halftime, Drexel scored the period's first goal as Drylie-Perkins converted a free-position shot from the left side. Penn tacked on two more goals before the Dragons closed the game with two goals of their own. Freshman Ali Allen broke free at midfield and sent a pass to Charlotte Wood on the left. Wood converted as Allen registered her first career collegiate point. Drylie-Perkins picked up her second goal of the game as she muscled her way from behind the cage to the front where she sent a shot past Penn goalie Emily Szelest.
Penn outshot Drexel, 28-10, on the day and earned 11 of the game's 16 draws. In addition to her 11 saves, LaBella added four groundballs and two caused turnovers. Szelest made three saves in recording the victory.
Drexel will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 25 as La Salle visits Vidas Field for a 4:00 p.m. game.
