Philadelphia - Drexel freshman Charlotte Wood scored six goals as the Dragons cruised to a 12-5 victory at Vidas Field. Drexel scored the game's last six goals to improve its record to 3-1, including a 3-0 mark on the Dragons' home turf. The only loss of the season came at No. 5 Penn last Saturday. The loss dropped the Explorers to 0-2 on the season.
The Dragons were pressed early by La Salle as Katie Blazer opened the game's scoring but the Explorers' Stefany McKee answered. Wood began her scoring with a pair of goals to give Drexel an early two goal lead but again McKee responded with a goal. Nicole Musto scored her first goal in her Drexel career after receiving a Mariana Uribe pass to move the margin back to two goals. Jill Davis scored the final goal of the half with 6:28 remaining as Drexel held just a one-goal lead heading into the break.
The second half opened with more of the same back-and-forth scoring as the two teams exchanged a pair of goals until Wood took over. With 24:14 remaining and Drexel holding a 7-5 advantage, Wood scored unassisted. After a Becca Drylie-Perkins score, Wood went on a three-goal binge that wrapped up the game. Drylie-Perkins added another goal to end the game's scoring.
The Dragons outshot the Explorers, 28-15, and held a 12-8 advantage in draw controls. Drexel's Lauren LaBella made five saves in goal while Mara Schnellenbach stopped eight shots. McKee led the visitors in scoring with three goals while Nora McGurkin added two assists.
Drexel returns to action Sunday, March 1 with a trip to Washington D.C. to challenge George Washington at 1:00 p.m.
