Washington, D.C. - Drexel used a 7-0 run to open the second half to turn a halftime deficit into a 13-8 victory over George Washington. The Dragons featured astounding efficiency on offense as they scored on 11 of their first 14 shots in the game. Katie Lawson scored four goals while Becca Drylie-Perkins added three scores. Midfielder Nicole Musto contributed a pair of goals and an assist. The win moved Drexel to 4-1 on the season while the Colonials remain winless at 0-4.
After the halftime break, Charlotte Wood knotted up the game at 5-5 with a goal just 1:04 into the period. Katie Blazer followed with an unassisted score. Allegra Gerhardt picked up the ensuing draw control just 41 seconds later Lawson recorded her third goal of the game. Less than three minutes later, Nicole Musto converted a free-position attempt to give Drexel an 8-5 advantage. Lawson continued the Drexel run with her fourth goal of the game at 21:53 of the second half. Just thirty seconds later, Musto found Drylie-Perkins who notched her second score of the game. Thirteen seconds later, Katie Blazer gave Drexel its third goal in 43 seconds after winning the draw control and racing in to beat substitute goalie Christine Lovett for the score. After a long scoring drought, George Washington halted the run with a goal from Katherine Sampson with 13:50 remaining in the game. The Colonials tacked on another goal just over three minutes later as Taylor Donohue scored on a Sarah Phillips feed. They would get no closer however as the Drexel defense shut down any comeback attempt the hosts planned. Wood tacked on her second goal of the game and eighth in the last two games before GW's Mia Brehney scored with less than a minute remaining. Drylie-Perkins completed her hat trick after receiving a Jaclyn Klunder pass in front with just 16 seconds remaining.
The first half featured back-and-forth action with George Washington opening up the game's first two-goal lead at 5-3. Musto scored the final goal of the half to bring the Dragons to within a goal at 5-4 at halftime. George Washington outshot Drexel, 13-6, for the period but led by just one.
Lauren LaBella made eight saves in goal for Drexel while allowing seven goals before being replaced by Whitney Johnson with five minutes remaining in the game. Liz Hoffman made one save before being replaced in the second half by Lovett who made three saves. The Colonials outshot Drexel 26-19 for the game but the Dragons' efficient shooting more than made up for the discrepancy.
Drexel returns to action March 10 for its first ever meeting against LIU-Brooklyn. Game time for the road game is 4:00 p.m.
