Thirteen Players Score for the Dragons in 19-5 Victory over LIU-Brooklyn

Brooklyn, N.Y. - Drexel shrugged off an eight-day layoff to trounce LIU-Brooklyn, 19-5, in the teams' first-ever meeting in women's lacrosse. The Dragons got goals from 13 different players including three each from Charlotte Wood and Katie Lawson. The win improved Drexel's record to 5-1 while the Blackbirds fell to 0-2 on the season.
With the score tied at 1-1 with 23 minutes remaining in the first half, Drexel quickly put the game out of reach. A Mariana Uribe goal off of a Wood assist ignited a 7-0 run over the next 10 minutes. Wood added two goals in the flurry while Lawson, Jaclyn Klunder, Becca Drylie-Perkins and Emily Kane also recorded scores. The Blackbirds halted the run with two goals but the Dragons ended the half with the final five goals to extend their lead to 13-3 at the break. Drexel tacked on the the first four goals of the second half en route to the 19-5 finish.
Drexel outshot LIU, 36-16, and held a 17-8 advantage in draw controls. Lauren LaBella made four saves in the first half to record the win for Drexel while Whitney Johnson relieved her at halftime and made five saves. Amber Meek and Jaqueline Simonian each posted four saves in goal for the Blackbirds.
Katie Blazer had a fine game at midfield as the sophomore totaled a game-high six draw controls, two groundballs and caused two turnovers. She also added a goal and an assist. Classmate Nicole Musto chipped in with three draw controls, three groundballs and caused two turnovers.
The Dragons resume action on Saturday, March 14 when Drexel travels to city rival Saint Joseph's for a 4:00 p.m. game.
