Drexel Wrestling Falls to Rider, 25-10

Lawrenceville, N.J. - Drexel wrestling dropped a 25-10 decision to Rider in a Colonial Athletic Association match held on the Broncs' campus. Three Dragons earned victories including freshman 125-pounder Michael Gomez's win by major decision. Dave Woodall at 174 pounds and Jon Oplinger at 197 pounds were the other victors for Drexel.
WIth the match starting at 125 pounds, Gomez's 10-2 major decision victory over Tim Trivisonno gave the Dragons an early 4-0 lead. Rider came back to take the next matches in tightly contested decisions at Rider's Jimmy Kirchner defeated Frank Cimato, 6-3, before Fred Rodgers outpointed Matt Dugan, 6-2. Rider doubled its point total with a win by fall at 149 pounds to extend the Broncs' lead to 12-4. Rider took another two close matches at 157 and 165 pounds as Billy Haydt dropped a 3-1 decision to Michael Kessler before Scott Hunter lost to Jason Lepham by the same score. Woodall ended the Broncs' streak when he earned a 5-3 win over Mike Ward at 174 pounds. Nationally ranked Doug Umbehauer took a major decision from Shawn Fausey to clinch the match. Oplinger followed with his win, a 7-1 decision over Mike Miller. The dual ended with CAA top-ranked heavyweight Ed Bordas' 4-1 win over Drexel's Kyle Frey.
The Dragons are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 7 as Brown will take on Drexel at the Palestra.
