Baltimore, Md. - Ashley Botelho's second-inning single against Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday made her the 27th member of Drexel's 100-hit club. She went 2-for-4 in the game with a pair of RBIs as the Dragons blasted FDU 8-0 in a run-rule shortened six inning Consolation Championship Game at the UMBC Dawg Pound Tournament. With the win, Drexel finished third in the tournament after going 4-1 on the weekend.
Rookie Devon Metcalf also went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Caprice DeMirjian, Paige Collings and Jessica Bongiovanni added an RBI each. Ellen Boundy picked up her second win of the day. She scattered four hits and a walk and struckout two batters over six innings of shutout softball.
The Dragons plated two runs in each of the first two innings by taking advantage of the wild arm of Kirsten Shreve who issued six walks and threw three wild pitches before being relieved with two outs in the second inning.
The same lack of control also plagued Shreve's replacement, Trina Fields, who walked in a run before yielding a two-run, bases-loaded single to Devon Metcalf to invoke the eight-run rule and end the contest.
The win evened Drexel's record at 5-5 on the season. Botelho, Sandi Wambold, Lisa Williams and Hillary Allen all earned places on the All-Tournament Team. The Dragons are back in action on March 11 when the travel to play crosstown rival University of the Sciences.
