Hofstra Sweeps Dragons In Saturday Softball Doubleheader

Philadelphia - The CAA leading Hofstra Pride (25-16, 13-3) pulled out a doubleheader sweep on Saturday with a 9-4 come-from-behind victory in game two at Drexel Field. Hofstra opened the three-game CAA series with a 6-0 blanking of Drexel (22-18, 6-10) on three-hitter by Kayleigh Lotti. In game two, Drexel scored four runs in the first two innings, including Ashley Botelho's sevent homer of the season matching the team's record for dingers in a season, held by Botelho and Sandi Wambold. The teams finish out the series on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
The Dragons managed just three hits against All-Conference pitcher Kayleigh Lotti in a 6-0 win by Hofstra in game one of Saturday's doubleheader at Drexel Field. Hillary Allen pitched a complete game for the Dragons and Paige Collings, Devon Metcalf and Lisa Williams all go base-knocks for Drexel in the loss.
Allen dropped to 10-9 on the season after giving up three earned runs on 12 hits through seven innings. The Dragons committed five errors behind her, which resulted in three unearned runs in the contest.
Lotti improved to 16-6 on the season after tossing the three-hit shutout with one walk and six strikeouts on the day. Kris Root went 3-for-4 and Michele DiPasquale and Sara Michalowski both drove in a pair of runs for the Pride.
Drexel led 4-2 through four innings in the nightcap before Hofstra put three runs on the board in the fifth to take the lead for good. Kayleigh Lotti pitching five and one-third innings in relief to pick up her conference-leading 17th win of the season. Ashley Botelho helped Drexel pull out to an early lead with a two-run homer, her seventh of the season.
Botelho's blast matched Drexel's single-season record for homers, which was set last year by Botelho and Sandi Wambold. Lisa Williams and Kristen Beaver drove in a run each for the Dragons in their best offensive effort in their last six conference contests.
Katrina Gaudier incurred the loss, dropping to 6-6 on the season, after letting up three earned runs on 12 hits through six innings. The Dragons committed three errors in the field which led to six unearned runs coming across the plate.
Lotti allowed just one hit in her five and one-third innings of work and she struckout 10 Dragons.
The teams will complete the series on Sunday, April 26 at 11:00 a.m. Seniors Kristen Beaver, Jessica Bongiovanni, Christina Rodriguez, Amanda Shattuck, Sandi Wambold and Lisa Williams will be honored prior to the game as part of Senior Day festivities at Drexel Field.
