Box Score
Jacksonville, Fla. - After waiting one more day for their season opener after rain cancelled day one of play at the Jacksonville University Tournament, the Dragons started the 2010 season with a 3-0 blanking of UNC Greensboro. Sophomore Hillary Allen picked up the complete-game shutout victory from the circle. The Dragons will face the host Jacksonville Dolphins in the nightcap Saturday afternoon.
Rookie Hanna Parish picked up her first career hit in her first at bat as a Dragon. She singled up the middle off of Greensboro starter Amber Harrell, then stole second and came around to score on a bunt by Devon Metcalf.
Ashley Botelho drove in her 90th career run when she singled to bring home Metcalf after she stole second base. Botelho joins Kelly Griffith ('93) and Molly Dacey ('08) as the only three players in Drexel history to drive in 90 runs or more. She is now 10 RBIs shy of breaking Griffith's record.
Allen allowed just four baserunners, on two hits and a walk and struckout four in the complete game shutout. She also went 2-for-3 at the plate hitting from the six hole in the lineup.
