Philadelphia - Drexel softball will compete at Drexel Field for the first time in 2010 when the Dragons host Georgetown in a 4:00 game on Tuesday, March 23. The Dragons (4-6) are coming off a doubleheader split at Temple on Sunday. Led by the thunderous bat of senior Ashley Botelho, Drexel is looking to defeat Georgetown (7-14) for the second time in as many meetings.
Botelho, who is Drexel's career leader in home runs, cracked two round-trippers against Temple in a 2-0 victory for the Dragons in game one on Sunday, en route to a 5-for-6 performance in the twinbill. Sophomore hurler Hillary Allen earned the complete-game victory to improve to 3-1 on the season. In the nighcap, rookie Shyann Beach worked six effective innings but received no run support from the Drexel offense in a 2-0 loss to the Owls.
Georgetown is 7-14 overall entering Tuesday's contest. The Hoyas have lost seven of their last nine games, including a 3-2 nine-inning contest at the UMBC Spring Classic in their last outing. Mackensey Carter pitched nine strong innings for Georgetown, allowing two earned runs on five hits and a walk while fanning seven batters.
Drexel beat Georgetown 4-2 on Feb. 15, 2008, the team's only other meeting. Katrina Gaudier threw a complete game against the Hoyas at the Georgia Southern Tournament and also hit a home run. Katy Harrington also homered in the game for Drexel in her first career game as a Dragon.
