Villanova Snaps Drexel's Six Game Winning Streak, 10-8

Villanova, Pa. – Drexel's six-game winning streak came to an end on Wednesday night with a 10-8 loss at Villanova. Colin Ambler had four goals and an assist for the Dragons. Robert Church added three goals, while Nick Trizano and Scott Perri each picked up three assists in the loss, which dropped the Dragons record to 6-2. Villanova is now 5-2.
Drexel trailed 9-4 entering the fourth quarter, but made a game of it with two quick goals. Nick Trizano set up Church at the 12:55 mark, and the freshman added another assist two minutes later on an Ambler man-up goal. Villanova countered with Paul Webber scoring with 8:23 left in the game putting Villanova up 10-6. Drexel killed off three penalties in the fourth quarter, but was unable to do much offensively until the closing minutes. Ambler set up Church with 1:41 to play for a goal and Ambler scored his fourth of the game just 31 seconds later to make it 10-8.
Villanova opened the scoring in the second half with an extra-man goal just 32 seconds in. Andrew Collins was called for holding, and the 'Cats capitalized when Will Casertano picked up an errant pass on the doorstep behind the Drexel defense and beat Mark Manos to make it 6-3. Villanova scored four of the five goals in the third quarter, including two on the man-up. The Wildcats extended the lead to five goals at 9-4 after Webber and Michael Vigilante scored late in the period. Adam Dennis had the Dragons only tally of the quarter.

The 'Cats looked like they would take a three-goal lead to the break, but Villanova committed a turnover and Scott Perri set up Colin Ambler for his second goal of the game with just eight seconds remaining in the first half.
Drexel controlled possession in the first quarter, but the teams were tied at 2-2 at the end of the first period. Villanova tied it with just 12 seconds left in the period on a Mike Brennan goal. The Dragons won four of the five face-offs in the quarter, but could only put two past Villanova keeper Billy Hurley. The freshman made five saves in the quarter. Scott Perri set up both Drexel goals in the first quarter, the first by Ambler and the other by Church.
The Dragons outshout Villanova, 29-28, but Hurley picked up 11 saves. Manos had eight stops for Drexel. The Dragons were penalized seven times in the game, but only gave up one extra-man goal.
Drexel continues its three-game road stretch with a game at No. 8 Lafayette on Sunday afternoon.
