Amanda Bachmann led the Drexel rally for three runs in the fourth inning when she took an outside pitch to right center with the bases loaded for a three-run double. The rookie's clutch knock gave Drexel its first runs of the weekend against Johnston. Hanna Parrish brought Bachmann in from second base with a well-place double down the left field line to give Drexel a 4-1 lead.
Gaudier turned in one of her best efforts of the season, working an efficient five innings and allowing just one run on four hits and two walks and striking out a season-best five batters.
Hillary Allen relieved her in the sixth inning and surrendered a run on a walk and back-to-back singles by Stef Streets and Joyce Delp. She escaped with a 4-2 lead after getting a ground back up the middle for the ender.
Bachmann offered Drexel's answer in the bottom of the sixth when she cracked her first career home run on an 0-1 pitch that lingered over the plate. The solo shot pushed Drexel's lead to 5-2.
After walking the lead-off batter in the top of the seventh, Allen settled down to retire the next three batters and earn her first save of the season.
The Dragons will close out their eight-game homestand with a doubleheader against Bucknell on Wednesday, March 31.
