Softball Closes Out Homestand With Wednesday Doubleheader Against Bucknell

Philadelphia - Drexel (7-9, 1-2) will close out its eight-game homestand with a pair of afternoon contests against the Bucknell Bison (7-7) on Wednesday. The Dragons are coming off a 5-2 win over Towson in the finale of their first CAA series of the season. Bucknell has won three of its last four games, including taking two of three from Coppin State on the road last weekend. Opening pitch for game one of the twinbill is set for 3:00 p.m. at Drexel Field.
Rookie Amanda Bachmann turned in a break-out performance against Towson on Sunday, driving in four of Drexel's five runs and hitting her first career homer in the Dragons' win. Senior Katrina Gaudier kept the Tigers off balance through five solid innings in the circle and Hillary Allen pitched the final two innings to close out her first career save. Senior Ashley Botelho hit .444 last week with three multi-hit games. She is just three RBIs shy of tying Drexel's all-time record and is quickly approaching the team's career hits record as well.
Bucknell is 7-7 on the season and has yet to play a home game. The Bison boast a gaudy .314 team batting average Six batters with more than 25 at bats on the season are batting better than .300 for Bucknell Shelly McCormack (.480), Lauren Fry (.425) and Sherry Finkel (.417) lead the team in batting. Bridget Gates is the team's top pitcher, with a 4-2 record on the season and a 3.09 ERA. She has allowed 17 earned runs in just over 38 innings in the circle and struckout 15 batters this year.
Drexel is 20-14 all-time against Bucknell and the Dragons split a doubleheader against the Bison in Lewisburg, Pa. on March 25 of last season. Drexel lost game one 5-3 and bounced back for a 9-3 win in the nightcap. Kelly Downes hit her first career homer for Drexel in the win and Botelho homered and drove in two runs in the game one loss.
Parking and admission are free for all fans at Drexel Field. The field is located in the northwest corner of the Vidas Athletic Complex on 43rd and Powelton Streets in University City.
