Anderson escaped the inning on a line double play by Kelly Downes but the damage had already been done.
The heart of Drexel's order gave the Dragons two more runs in the fifth inning and knocked starter Becky Anderson out of the game trailing 6-0. Paige Collings hit a towering home run to straight-away centerfield on a 1-1 offering from Anderson. Ashley Botelho followed her with a screaming drive off the glove of a defenseless Katie Rynex at first base, the ball deflected off Rynex and rolled to the right corner of foul territory. Botelho rounded the bases and as she slid into third the relay throw from second base went wide of third baseman Megan Blank allowing Botelho to sprint home.
With a comfortable 6-0 lead in the sixth inning Ellen Boundy relieved Hillary Allen and promptly issued a walk to Katie Rynex and a two-run homer to Emily Lafferty. Allen returned to the circle and retired the next three batters in order to get out of the inning.
Anderson incurred the loss after letting up four earned runs in four and one-third innings. She gave up eight hits, walked a batter and struck out four.

The Patriots got two more runs in the fifth inning on a pair of bases-loaded singles by Rachael Davies and Katie Rynex. Rynex tried to take second on the throw home from Amanda Bachmann, but Paige Collings quickly relayed it to second base to get Rynex on the slide for the inning-ender.

Gaudier loaded the bases in the on a single and a pair of walks with two outs and Mason brought home four runs on three hits that barely left the infield. Tori Dudley drove a grounder to shortstop The ball took a last-second hop and bounded over Hanna Parrish allowing two runs to score. One more came home on a ball that tipped off the glove of a diving Botelho at third base and a Davies bloop single.
Hillary Allen relieved Gaudier and gave up a two-RBI single to Katie Rynex to put the Patriots on top 9-0. Allen appeared to induce an inning-ending ground out to second base, but the ball skidded under the glove of Kelly Downes allowing another run to score before Megan Blank popped out to end the inning.
With the eight-run rule looming in the bottom of the sixth inning, Collings did her best to stave off an early end to the game. The sophomore smashed a 3-1 pitch to right center field for her second homer of the day and team-leading fifth of the season.
