Georgia State Completes Softball Sweep of Dragons in Atlanta

Atlanta - A bases-loaded single by Audrey Mason with no outs in the bottom of the seventh gave Georgia State (24-11, 5-1) a 3-2 win over Drexel (8-13, 1-5) in game two of the weekend's three-game set. The Panthers closed out a three-game sweep with a 4-1 win behind a quality pitching performance by McCall Langford. Kelly Downes went 2-for-4 with an RBI and senior pitcher Katrina Gaudier threw an effective six innings and struckout a season-high six batters despite taking the loss in game one.
Game One
Audrey Mason went 2-for-3 with two RBIs on the day for the Panthers, who won a second straight game over Drexel and the first of two on Saturday's doubleheader. Cassie Boese went 4-for-4 for the Panthers and lead-off hitter Danielle Roddy was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Heather Lowry started the game for Georgia State, but Alana Thomas recorded her second straight win against the Dragons by pitching the final three innings and holding Drexel scoreless with two hits, a walk and three strikeouts.
Drexel took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Ashley Botelho that scored Katy Harrington from second. But Drexel promptly surrendered it in the bottom of the half of the frame.when Mason singled with runners on first and second. She drove in the tying run buy Boese was thrown out at home to end the inning with Georgia State on top 3-2.
Three straight Panthers singled to lead off the bottom of the seventh before Mason pulled a ball down the third base line to knock home the winning run.
Game Two
McCall Langford gave up just three hits and struckout six in a 4-1 win over the Dragons in game three of the series. Lauren Fetters went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a home run and Danielle Roddy went 3-for-3 with a run scored for the Panthers.
Hillary Allen dropped to 4-4 on the season after letting up three earned runs on nine hits and two walks while fanning two in six innings.
Lauren Jones drove in the first run on an RBI groundout in the first inning, giving Georgia State a 1-0 lead. Jones also came around to score an unearned run after reaching on an error in the third inning to give the Panthers a 2-0 advantage.
The Dragons got their lone run of the game in the sixth inning when a lead-off double by Rachel Campbell set up what appeared to be a big inning for Drexel. She came in to score after back-to-back singles by Amanda Bachmann and Hanna Parrish. Kelly Downes moved the runners to second and third with a sacrifice bunt. The rally quickly came to an end, however, when Jenn Reading and Ashley Botelho grounded out on consecutive at bats to end the inning.
Those three hits would be the only base knocks of the game for the Dragons in a dominant pitching performance by Langford.
Drexel is back in action on Wednesday, April 7 when they travel to Bethlehem, Pa. to face Lafayette in a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
