Philadelphia - The Dragons are looking to bounce back after a tough weekend at Georgia State when they travel to play at Lafayette on Wednesday. Drexel (8-13, 1-5 CAA) lost three games in Atlanta by a combined total of five runs over the weekend, but the Dragons will be trying to get back on track against the 9-15 Leopards in a road doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m. in Bethlehem, Pa.
Drexel is 7-8 this season in non-conference games and 2-2 in non-conference road games. Ashley Botelho is one RBI away from matching Drexel's all-time record of 99 held by Kelli Griffith ('93). Botelho is batting .383 in non-conference games with four home runs and eight RBIs. Senior pitcher Katrina Gaudier has been working her way back to full health this season and it has shown in recent outings. Gaudier, whose next start will move her into seventh place all-time in career starts, struckout a season-high six batters in her last outing and beat Towson in the start prior to that.
The Leopards enter Wednesday's games on a five-game losing skid. They opened Patriot League play by getting swept in a four-game series against Army and, most recently, lost to Stony Brook on Tuesday. Lafayette's primary contributor this season has been senior Kasey Karr. Not only is Karr the team's leadin hitter with a .321 average, six home runs and 13 RBIs, but she is also the Leopard's top pitcher with a 7-7 record from the circle, a 4.25 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 89 innings. Karr also leads the team in on-base percentage (.411), slugging (.628) and stolen bases (5) on the season.
Drexel leads the all-time series against Lafayette 35-11. The Dragons defeated Lafayette 3-1 on April 1 of last season, which was the teams' last meeting. Ellen Boundy pitched one of the best games of her career in holding the Leopards scoreless for six innings and striking out a career-high nine batters.
